Default Phone tells me who is texting

Hi there
I haveNO idea how I did this but somehow I have my phone set so that it tells me out loud who is texting me. It is very very annoying as "she" usually gets the names wrong. I also do not need people around me to know who it is I am texting.
Can you help me undo this?

Maybe you have driving mode enabled?

Double click the home button, this will activate Voice command. Ignore the voice prompt, press back and wait for the onscreen menu. Driving mode us bottom right and if active will have a green bar.
Press it to turn off!

Does that solve it??

it probably did solve it, but I love how people don't come on and say so or to say thanks when you help.

It's quite annoying tbh and quite regular, I'm not so bothered about the thanks but if it worked would be nice so others can find it if they are having the same issue.

I have a similar problem and driving mode IS NOT on.

It also announces who is calling, even as I am saying hello to the person. I can hear the announcement of who the person is while I'm beginning to talk to them.

Hi JayJ,
I stumbled across this thread and yes it has helped. Thanks for the suggestion! I'm curious though: my driving mode was on yesterday, and the phone has been saying "you have a text from blah". But not, even though driving mode is still ON, the phone has stopped saying it. Why is it doing that?

Check the voice input & output settings...

Menu> Settings> Voice input & output...

You haven't inadvertently uninstalled the Talkback application or TTS Service have you? They are system apps so unless your rooted I doubt this is the case!

I too mod a global forum. You jump through hoops to get an answer to assist people and rarely even get a "Thanks" reply .... still, if our advice can help others ...

Yes my phone is rooted. I have added two new ones (SVOX and Ivona). I tried to uninstall Ivona and keep just SVOX. The phone will tell me "new message from..." (which is what I want) sometimes and won't do it other times. Oh well it works when it works. I guess it's nice when a sexy voice tells you that you have a message, but she probably has her moments LOL!

I didn't write the question that started this, but made an account to say thank you for the quick easy advice that immediately fixed my problem
