Default Will Factory Reset Unroot my Phone?

Hi All,

I purchased a second hand SGS2 that has already been rooted.

I want to delete the email accounts linked with the phone (the ones that can only be deleted via factory reset).

What I would like to know is will a factory reset unroot the phone?

Thanks,

Irfan

In short, no a factory reset will definitely not unroot your phone.

It won't delete the custom ROM but it will delete your apps!

Do you have Clockwork Mod Recovery installed? If so then you can do an advanced restore of a nandroid back up and just restore the data, this will restore your apps, settings, saved passwords, bookmarks etc, etc.

Yes CWM will still be there, what kernel are you running because usually CWM is part of the kernel.

NP mate!

We all have to start somewhere, I wouldn't know what I know if not for forums!

Where's your ROM and kernel from and does that kernel come with the ROM or recommended??

I used custom ROM's allot when I had my SE X10i but haven't since getting my GS2, as you can probably see from my sig I am however running a custom kernel. I do like the Sammy ROM but I guess I'm waiting for a good ICS port or even CM9 to hit the GS2, will be flashing then! lol

Umm I bought the phone a couple of days ago and it was already rooted and running the above..I thought I was doing myself a favour by buying a pre-rooted phone but all that means is that I have missed out on that part of the learning curve!!

I just want to be able to link my accounts to the phone and get rid of the sellers details.

Is there only one way to find out? (I'm scared haha)

Thanks

(Btw is the karma button the same thing as a thanks button?)

Yes the karma/applaud is the same as thanks.

You haven't really missed out at all, it just means your ready to start flashing ROM's, rooting is easy enough on the GS2 so you bypassed an easy step. Just join XDA Developers and do some reading, I'll help where I can but I'm still learning myself even with previous Android experience!

EDIT- I can't believe somebody would sell a device with accounts still attached, I wiped my X10i with the intention of selling it but I just can't do it and I'm still getting my flash fixes with it too! lol

There are 3 ways to reset the GS2, the option in settings then the recovery reset and a dialler reset but I can't remember the dialler number of hand. I will add though that if you remove the previous owners account details any paid apps will be lost and also if you restore a nandroid back up the previous users account will be back so that kinda devalues that idea.
Another option would be to install Titanium Back up from the market and back up all the apps you want to keep, you can then restore those once you factory reset the phone although I don't think you'll be able to market link any paid apps. Try it, you never know until you try!
