Crazeuk

You have my genuine sympathy, not that it will do much good. I assume that you didn't have "remote locate" or "remote wipe" all enabled.

I hope it was covered by insurance, special or household.

It was insured through the bank.
I did have remote feature turned on, but didnt realise there was Samsung Dive, so i got home had the phone barred and blocked. Unfortunately Samsung Dive only works if the Sim card and phone are still working. DOH!

So a lesson for all, if your phone gets stolen, get to a computer log into samsung dive, locate it, and erase it. Then put a pin on it and get it blocked!

so i got the new phone this morning.. they delivered it without a battery but luckily i keep a spare.

Anyways i am thinking there is no better time now to do a ICS upgrade..

But i feel a bit of hesitance.

I am using this instruction and build:
http://www.jayceooi.com/2011/08/08/h...th-odin-video/

From what i know it is the official build of the ICS for SGS2

When my service providers official build is released will i be able to flick to that version without causing problems or losing data?

Nice shiny new phone, lucky sod! lol

So which build of ICS are you going to use?? I have been using LPQ but there is a newer version which is LP7, I am using LP7 atm and it's definitely smoother than LPQ especially the screen scroll and home button action both with less lag. It's the Malaysian build I believe but it supports English and I've had no problems with it to date.

Official i9100 firmwares

The last part of the post linked.

Instructions on the use of Odin are pretty straight forward on the same thread, I just linked the post above with the ICS firmware so this is the rest of that thread.

I wouldn't worry about going back to you providers build, you'll end up with all their bloatware included and it will make no difference to the phone. Using a generic firmware will give you a nice clean build of Samsung ICS to enjoy.

Whoops just as i was updating the thread you where writing.. in my excitement i upgraded.

I ended up using the LPQ version.

I see what you mean by Lag on the LPQ (i think).

What country are you in?

I might do LP7 while i am at it and the phone is still clean.

Have you tested face lock?

I'm in the UK mate, same as you!

Face unlock works okay, it can be frustrating at times when you want to unlock your phone quickly. It takes a few seconds for the camera to start and in that time there's no face unlock bypass option so for those times that you know it's not going to work because of bad lighting you can't unlock until the camera starts. The pin/pattern bypass button should be there all the time, IMO.

I still use it though.

If there's anything else mate, just ask!

Yup, that's the one and just so you know to move to folders you have to press menu in the list view.

Is not as clear and good as the older one.
That you could access the folders from the title bar

Will do the upgrade now

..and the upgrade is done.... to the version JayJ said above it is smoother.
