Default Transferring Music Files ... please, Please, PLEASE Help!

Hi,

Firstly, I LOVE my Samsung Galaxy S2 ... it'll be even better when my new Alu-lined Proporta case gets delivered to protect this beautiful wee object of desire, but transferring music files is driving me up the wall!!!

Okay. A wee overview. A 'standard' Samsung Galaxy S2 with 16gb of Memory onboard and a 'generic' 32gb MicroSD card.

I have a shedload of music files - principally in MP3 and .flac format that I want on my phone. This is where the problems start.

I have tried almost every possible connotation of getting files onto the phone:

1) Using the (painfully slow!) Kies software connected directly from PC to the phone. It takes hours and hours to attempt to transfer the selected files (11gb) over to the external (Micro SD) memory of the phones and stops after a couple of hours with a message "This file already exists". Then only allows me to cancel the transfer.

2) Using a card reader to transfer the files directly onto my Micro SD card. This stores all music untagged under the <unknown> list of Music tracks on the Galaxy S2. Not really ideal. However, when I attempt to play the files I get the message "Sorry, the player does not support this type of audio file."

3) Using Kies Air to transfer tracks. So far the most successful way in that it lists tracks, albums, artists under music and, more importantly, it plays them. However, I attempted to transfer the files to the Micro SD card using Kies, but it also seems to populate the onboard memory at the same time, so when I've reached 10.8gb of music, Kies says it's out of memory and I can't download anymore.

I really want to fill up the Micro SD card's memory before I start eating into the onboard memory. Please help!!!

Best regards,

MDS.

Okay I could close this topic as it has been covered at least twice that I can think of but I won't, instead I'll explain the method I use and then hopefully with a thread title like this nobody will ask again because they'll search and find this thread.

I don't use Kies, it's naff and a PITA. Instead I just cut/copy & paste with Windows.
First you'll need to disable MTP, do this by enabling USB Debugging.

Menu> Settings> Applications> Development> Check USB Debugging.

Now connect your GS2 to your PC, in the statusbar you will see a generic USB icon, pull the statusbar down to open notifications and tap the connect storage notification.
Now follow the onscreen prompts to connect your S2 to your PC, it's pretty straight forward from here.

I created a folder on my SD card called Music and then artist folders in that and albums in the corresponding artists folder, don't use Windows Media Player just copy & paste from your PC's music folder.

Make sure you safely remove the SD card before disconnecting your phone and you should be done.

Finally, the GS2 will be fine with MP3 and WMA but I'm not sure about other formats, if it says cannot play this format then I would suggest either another format or a 3rd party music player from the market. Power Amp and MXzing are both good players.

Hope that helps!

JJ.

Many thanks for your reply and agreement that Kies is a total POS.

I will attempt to follow your suggestions and give feedback. Unfortunately, the phone was posting up the "does not support this type of audio file" messages with MP3 files et al ...

Here's for another bang-my-head-on-my-desk-repeatedly Sunday afternoon methinks.

Well I use SwiFTP software in my phone and make my phone a FTP server and basically transfer anything into my phone and out of my phone via WIFI connection. You can also transfer the files via internet too if you know your device's IP address.

SwiFTP is very simple and easy to use and it is free in andriod market .

Try it and enjoy bro.
